VISUAL ART at Mountain Ridge High School !
My Classroom Philosophy
Students should feel free to explore all the many and varied experiences that the visual arts curriculm has to offer! Art is creativity! Art is exploration! Art in it's many forms can be a life long passion!
Students need not feel that they should be experts in art to be enrolled in an art class. They should approach the class as an exploration. I do not grade students on their talents, but on their efforts. Each student's abilities and talents can grow through effort and experience.
Classroom Rules and Procedure
-Please enter the room and place your backpacks under the table, not in a walkway.
-Check the whiteboard for the step by step opening instructions.
-Students are asked to stay in their seats after they collect the materials they need for work.
-All students at a table will be asked to be an assistant on a rotating basis. They will be asked to clean materials and return them to the correct storage spot for the next class.
-No one should be talking loudly or having a conversation with other students at a distant table during class time.
-No personal IPODS, MP3 players or other personal music systems are allowed in class. No cell phones. Any electronic devise will be confiscated, locked up until after school and turned into the conduct office. See them for pick up the following day.
-NO GUM OR EATING IN CLASS PLEASE !
-When a student completes an assignment he or she should place the labeled work on the appropriate class shelf marked completed work
- Students are expected to work everyday! Each assignment is valued at 25 points per day. (example-a 2 day assignment is worth 50 points) If you do not work one day you may have 25 points deducted from your total score. Except when your absences are over 2 days, 90% of an assignment work be done in class-not at home!
-Please, no talking during instruction time!!!
- If you need more time to complete an assignment please see Ms. K to sign up for an alternate deadline. (espcially if you have been absent for more than two days!)
-Because we are in a portable, far away from the restrooms, I will not issue restroom passes during class unless it is an EMERGENCY!
-Drinking water and cups are available in class. NO WATER FOUNTAIN PASSES GIVEN.
Behavior
-Students who behave inappropriately in class will receive a warning about their behavior (talking during instruction time- out of seat socializing- misusing materials-not returning materials, etc)
-After a warning, students may be asked to wait after class for a short one on one conference. A pass will be written if necessary.
-Persistant misbehavior will require a call to the student's parents. (during or after class)
-A detention or referrel to the Conduct office may be required depending on the severity or persistance of the behavior.
-A warning is given for chewing gum in class. After the warning, a lunch detention is assigned.
-Anyone blatantly destoying class materials will be asked to pay for and replace the materials. Repeat offenses will be referred to the Assistant Principal as vandalism.
